When Enterprise Mobility, a leading national transportation and rental services provider, decided it was time for a change for their Central Pennsylvania Administrative Office, they knew they needed a space that would not only look fresh and current but also remain timeless and adaptable to future needs. The administrative office serves as the main training center, welcoming all new hires and providing a first impression of the company's culture. Explains Marcie Carder, Group Facilities & Construction Manager at Enterprise Mobility, “Our primary goal was to create a modern office that would stand the test of time and not be phased out by fleeting trends. We also wanted the space to reflect our brand and values and help attract and retain employees.

Having operated in the same facility for 20 years, Enterprise Mobility recognized the need for a more modern and versatile environment that would appeal to newer employees—recent college graduates accustomed to contemporary, dynamic workplaces. After purchasing their leased space, Enterprise Mobility undertook a comprehensive renovation, partnering with commercial furniture dealer Tanner Furniture, a division of SupplySource, Inc, and HON to bring their vision to life.

The organization conducted an employee analysis survey to gather feedback on the current office's strengths and weaknesses. This input was crucial in shaping their objectives and ensuring the new design met the needs of their team. Flexibility was key, as the space needed to be easily reconfigurable to accommodate various training sessions and future changes. In addition, the design needed to foster a fun and engaging atmosphere. It was also important to create a cohesive design across all levels of the office, ensuring that every employee felt valued and part of the same team. "We wanted every office to have a similar look, regardless of the employee's level. Each space, from private offices to open-plan workstations, features the same furniture, adjusted in size to fit the area. Our goal was to create a unified environment throughout the building," shares Rob Coakley, Property Development Manager at Enterprise Mobility.

The Enterprise Mobility team brought Tanner Furniture on board early in the process to explore design possibilities and validate their ideas. Says Carder, "The tours Tanner arranged for us were incredibly helpful. Seeing the HON products in action and how other companies utilized their spaces gave us great insights that made all the difference in our design process."

Coakley agrees, “Visiting other facilities was an eye-opening experience. After being in the same space for 20 years, you don't know what you don’t know. Seeing different setups was enlightening and really helped us present new ideas and elements of this project to upper management. It made a big difference."

The newly renovated office now features a variety of spaces tailored to different needs, with bright pops of color integrated on focal walls and through fun upholstery patterns. Along with the private offices that line the building’s perimeter and the open workstations within the interior, dedicated conference rooms and huddle spaces are interspersed throughout to support collaboration. Furnishings include sit-to-stand desks at every workstation to promote health and productivity and storage lockers for each employee to keep personal belongings close at hand. A large, versatile training area is equipped with mobile, foldable tables that can be easily rearranged or nested and stored as needs change. Featuring ample and inviting seating supporting various postures, the new break room has become a favorite spot for employees to relax and connect.

Both Carder and Coakley agree that the administrative office’s transformation has been a resounding success. Employees appreciate the modern, unified design and the flexibility of the new furniture. The sit-to-stand desks are a hit, with many workers standing for most of their workday, promoting a healthier and more active work environment. The training space easily adapts to different class sizes and configurations, ensuring it remains functional and relevant for years to come. And employees, who rarely stayed in the office before to eat, now enjoy spending their lunch breaks in the welcoming new breakroom.

Says Carder, "One of our founding values is that our organization be a fun and friendly place where teamwork rules. Working with Tanner and HON on this project, we truly hit the nail on the head. Our new office design perfectly illustrates our commitment to fostering a fun, collaborative, and engaging environment where our employees can connect and succeed together."
