What is seat depth?

An open-plan office space with cubicles, desks, and chairs arranged in a modern, minimalist style, with a carpeted floor and exposed ceiling beams.

Seat depth refers to the distance from the backrest to the front edge of the chair seat. A seat depth adjustment is a proportional chair adjustment that allows the user to move the backrest forward or backward to create a deeper or shallower seating area (view animation below).

This adjustment is important for achieving proper ergonomic posture, as it helps maintain healthy circulation and reduces pressure behind the knees. Many HON Task Chairs include seat depth adjustments to give users customizable comfort that fits a variety of body types and workstyles.
