Product Responsibility

HON product development incorporates Design for the Environment (DfE) processes to ensure that products provide long, reliable service. Materials are chosen to reduce impacts and be recyclable when the product reaches the end of its useful life. Links to Disassembly Instructions are provided with each product group.

Indoor Air Quality

Virtually all HON products are certified to the SCS Indoor Advantage™ Gold program, which uses the ANSI/BIFMA Furniture Emissions Standard. Links to Indoor Air Quality certificates are provided with each product group.

LEVEL® ANSI/BIFMA e3 Furniture Sustainability Standard

Virtually all products have achieved LEVEL certification based on the ANSI/BIFMA e3 Sustainable Furniture Standard. LEVEL assesses criteria that address corporate, facility, and product impacts and provides a pathway to creating progressively more sustainable furniture. Links to LEVEL certificates are provided with each product group.

LEED

HON is proud to be a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Our investment in sustainable design and manufacturing has paralleled our customers’ need for sustainable furniture. Virutally all HON desks, chairs, files and workstations can contribute to LEED credits in many areas.

Low Emitting Materials

Our furniture meets the emissions requirements of the LEED IEQ credit for Low-Emitting Materials. Our Indoor Air Quality certificates are accepted as proof and are identified by product and updated annually.

Recycled Content

HON’s Environmental Data Sheets (EDS) provide basic sustainability information on the most frequently asked questions about our products, including the recycled contents of our materials and products, and product certifications.

Environmental Product Declarations

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) provide an understandable report of how a product impacts natural resources, the environment, and the atmosphere. HON is creating EPDs for select products and these documents can contribute to the LEED credit for Environmental Product Declarations, Option 1.

Material Ingredients

Office furniture is comprised of a variety of materials, each having their own unique chemical makeups. Our products, materials, and chemical constituents are evaluated through the BIFMA LEVEL program. Several of our products have achieved e3 credit 7.5.1.3 and meet the criteria for LEED credit Material Ingredients, Option 1. Achievement of e3 credit 7.5.1.3 is included as a “USGBC approved program,” and the BIFMA LEVEL scorecards are accepted as proof.
