Ready for something different in 2021? (We know...silly question.) But with a new year comes new ideas— and a fresh outlook—and that’s why we’re so excited to talk about a few new things with Ignition coming in 2021.
The Ignition 2.0 will have more textures, finishes and options than ever before, allowing you to personalize your space at home or in the office.
When we launched Ignition in 2009, it was an instant success: our customers found it to be a comprehensive, fully coordinated solution for the entire office, including private workspaces, conference rooms, waiting areas and more.
New and upcoming enhancements will build upon the chair that customers know and love; now, no matter the needs of the customer or the space, Ignition is a single solution that brings the entire office together and fits individuals from the fifth to the 95th percentile.
Customization is crucial, and so are added features. With the evolving flexibility of work, a chair that can adapt to any space is a problem-solver for customers. Ignition will now feature seven mesh color options (up from five) starting in January, with designer and ColorWav™️ colors coming in April. Ignition will also maintain the key aspects that customers enjoy: molded foam seats and adjustable lumbar to support all day comfort and stability.
Plus, customers can build an Ignition with safety-focused features, like easy-to-clean, wipeable surfaces.
“The market wants more function, more control and more materials—but they want it to be in a sleeker, thinner profile,” said Harmony Carlberg, Design Services Manager for The HON Company. “That was the big appeal of Ignition 2.0, and now with the exciting new additions, the design continues to be more streamlined and enhanced.
“When we introduce new colors, we work closely with our internal teams to make sure we’re selecting colors that the market wants. The colors we chose here are thoughtfully considered and there’s a lot of market validation that goes behind it, to make sure we’re giving the customer what they want.”
Now that Ignition is on the way, with more colors, textures and features, how do you decide which option is best?
First, ask the following: Where will your chair be, and what should you consider to make sure the chair is tailored to where you’ll be working?
“We’re constantly looking at the evolving needs of our customers. We’re continuing to round out this offering and make sure that Ignition [is] the one-stop shop for a customer looking to outfit their entire office,” said Jeremy Tinkler, Manager of Product Marketing for The HON Company.
Let’s take a look at all the options Ignition has to offer.
4-WAY STRETCH MESH: This is the most breathable back option. If you want a clean, open look, the mesh back is the preferred style—and it provides the most movement because it shifts with the user.
REACTIVE BACK: This back type is designed for maximum support. It’s the best fit for higher use, as it has some flexibility—but not quite as much as the mesh back.
UPHOLSTERED BACK: The upholstered back offers high comfort and a clean look for a workplace conference room, with a slim profile and great aesthetic.
As mentioned, Ignition will now feature seven mesh color options. When selecting a frame color, black is more traditional and has mass appeal, but a titanium finish delivers an updated, clean look that’s a little more “techy.” (And, it tends to fit more cohesively in a work-from-home environment.)
“The longer you sit in a chair, the more control you should have,” Carlberg said. “You want to pick a control type that gives you the most flexibility to adjust to your body. Do you need all of those bells and whistles in a conference room? Probably not. [But] when working from home, you might need more control, because you’re at home and spending a lot of time in that chair during the day.”
