What’s happened in your work life lately?
Perhaps you’ve started a new job that allows for remote flexibility. Or maybe you’re among the many Americans who have found out they aren’t returning to the office anytime soon—or ever.
If you’re in either category, you should be thinking about the long-term plan for your home workspace. It may not be a full-fledged home office (and that’s fine!), but the space where you spend your work days should be set up for physical comfort (ergonomics) and workday inspiration (design).
Even better if it looks and feels a lot like the rest of your home.
At HON, we created our Room Designer tool to help you get there. We know that buying office furniture hasn’t always been easy, but with this tool and thoughtful consideration of what you need, you’ll be working in a home office you love in no time.
Respected research firm Gartner projects that 31% of all workers across the globe will work remotely in 2022. The United States will lead the charge with a full 53% working remotely. The UK is not far behind at 52%.
But we’ve heard from HON dealers, design partners and customers that setting up a proper home workspace has been a challenge. Chief among the hurdles has been the inability to find furniture that fits the aesthetic of the space they’re working with; whether it’s a nook in the kitchen or a corner of the living room, the need for adequate furniture remains.
Our goal with the Room Designer is to make buying decisions easier. With this tool, customers can get a true sense of scale with HON products—chairs, desks and work tools—to get a grasp on how the pieces will look in spaces that are similar to their own homes.
With the Room Designer, not only will you have a plan but also a list of suggested products to go along with it.
This is how you do better work—no matter where you’re working.
“When people started working from home early in the pandemic, they may have thought it would be temporary or short lived,” said Leslie Eichelberger, Director, Customer Engagement for The HON Company.
That obviously hasn’t been the case, as the benefits of working from home became clear: little to no commuting; greater childcare flexibility; money saved on gas, food and clothing; happier pets; and improved work-life balance—without the declines in productivity that some had predicted for two decades.
The Room Designer tool allows customers to be intentional about finding furniture that fits their spaces, both aesthetically and functionally.
“The longer we’ve been working from home, the more obvious it has become that we need a space that’s designed to make us comfortable,” Eichelberger said. “We understand, too, that not everyone can envision these options in their mind’s eye. This tool helps with the visualization aspect.”
One of the reasons many Americans enjoy working in the office is because it’s a thoughtfully designed, resource-rich environment that’s all about getting things done.
Employees like workspaces that have quality and supportive furniture, equipment that’s sophisticated enough to allow them to do their jobs well and an aesthetic that’s energizing and inspiring.
So it’s no surprise that when we’re working from home, we want the same things in our workspaces. Putting the pieces together should be much easier than it’s been in the past—which is where the Room Designer goes to work.
“This tool helps people decide whether or not the furniture they’re browsing matches the aesthetic of their home,” Eichelberger said. “If they’re at home more long term and will have a permanent space, it’s not ideal to have a mix-and-match setup. Customers should be able to see the product they’re interested in, and also see how it might look in their homes—but at the same time, it should provide the amenities they’d expect if they were working in the office.”
Another benefit? The Room Designer is adaptable, and if you’re not looking for an all-in solution, no problem. It gives you the ability to pick a desk that pairs well with a chair you already have, or vice versa.
Obviously, we’re pretty big advocates for having great office furniture, and that includes a great office chair. It’s a difference-maker.
Ignition® 2.0 has a residential feel to it and is fully customizable to fit any space or aesthetic with new color options and features. The Coze™ desk is perfect for an at-home workspace, too; it’s available in a variety of colors and built at a scale that makes it a comfortable fit in a variety of spaces you may have at home.
If you’re one of the millions working at home for any amount of time, you deserve a space that works for you. Get started today with HON’s Room Designer and find furniture that will make every day easier and more enjoyable.
