The results are in: Reviewers love HON task chairs. It’s no wonder: They combine design, comfort, and durability, all at an affordable price. Here’s what industry trendsetters are saying about these award-winning products.
It’s one thing if we rave about HON task chairs (which we love to do). But it’s another when objective, independent industry reviewers and influencers give our products their highest ratings. And that’s been happening a lot lately.
From the editor at The New York Times’ widely read Wirecutter reviews, to Forbes magazine, and organizers of our industry’s largest trade show (NeoCon), experts have tested our task chairs and found them to be extraordinary values. Their recommendations confirm what we’ve known all along: When you listen to customer needs, design with care, and build with quality, the results speak for themselves.
“A lot of work goes into these products,” said Anna Wizner, HON’s Director of Product Marketing. “So recognition from industry influencers like this is so good to see. It reflects everything we promise to our customers.”
Here’s a look at the chairs that impressed these discerning critics.
When Forbes magazine decides to review office chairs, they go big. In the “Vetted” section of its website, a large number of chairs were evaluated by ergonomics, aesthetics, cost, and other factors. And one chair stood out among all of them.
Forbes editors chose HON’s Ignition 2.0 as the Best Overall Office Chair. The reviewers described it as a “cool, perfectly contoured chair at a very reasonable price” and raved about its clever design. “The Ignition 2.0 gives you many of the features you can find in pricier chairs—at a lower cost. Crafted from breathable mesh, the bestselling chair will help you stay cool as you field calls, type at a furious pace or just sit back and relax. Its nifty contoured seat will also help you maintain a high level of comfort during your workday.” Forbes also appreciated Ignition’s limited lifetime warranty—and how easy it is to assemble.

If you’re unfamiliar with it, put Wirecutter on your regular reading list. Created by former CNet reviewers, and acquired by The New York Times a few years ago, it’s become a go-to resource for identifying the best products in a range of categories. Their philosophy: Why spend time writing about long lists of products when people only care about the top choice at various price points? Their reviewers are experts who go deep and narrow down the choices.
Wirecutter loves HON’s Ignition 2.0 office chair because it punches well above its weight, delivering comfort, support, and customization that bests competitors that cost two or three times the price. “Ignition is one of the few truly ergonomic office chairs you can find for under $400,” wrote Ben Keough in his recent review. “And it’s the one that redefined my idea of what a ‘budget’ desk chair should be.”
Wirecutter describes Ignition as one of the most comfortable chairs they’ve tested, with “many of the adjustments generally reserved for more expensive chairs.” Ignition provides exceptional lumbar support, adjustable seat depth and height, and armrest width, resulting in a great fit no matter the size of the person using it. And it comes in a wide array of back heights, seat and back materials, and base and armrest colors and styles. Find your perfect model using the Ignition configurator.
“The little things set this chair apart from the competition,” Wirecutter concluded. “They add up to an overwhelming impression of quality that makes this chair a pleasure to sit in every day.”
Featured Products: Cliq™
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) organized the Prize Designs for Modern Furniture in 1949 to encourage breakthrough contemporary ideas. Seven decades later, Global Design News and The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design relaunched this historic idea. And the 2022 Prize Design for Modern Furniture + Lighting selected HON’s Cliq as Best Office Chair of the Year.
“Instant comfort for collaboration,” is how we define Cliq, available as a task chair or stool. Designed with a weight-activated control that responds to the body and its movement, it provides this instant comfort without a lot of adjustments. It’s also light-scaled for a modern look that’s easy to maneuver.
“We are committed to having all of our products designed with ‘best of ideas’,” said HON’s Anna Wizner, HON’s Director of Product Marketing. “It’s gratifying to know the industry sees and recognizes these details. They’re what set our products apart.”

The Chicago Athenaeum also runs the Good Design awards, which honors outstanding examples of contemporary design across a range of categories. Founded by design icons Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and others, the awards recognize products that push the envelope for innovation in the world marketplace. HON was thrilled to see the Cipher task and guest chairs named a Good Design winner in the 2022 Furniture category. Judges loved Cipher’s “modern look and remarkable adaptability” that allows these chairs to look great in any space.
“Cipher’s intentional design puts the user at ease, allowing them to concentrate on meeting the demands of their day,” noted the award description. “The low-profile controls put adjustments right at the user’s fingerprints, and the integrated weight-activated functionality lets the chair move with the user as they readjust throughout the day.”
This recognition echoes what we’ve believed for decades: with their durability, style, and affordability, HON’s task seating offers everything today’s workers need for comfort and productivity.
