It is essential to any business person’s success to have the ability to, at any moment, strike up a conversation with a customer or jump into a conversation with a manager without skipping a beat. One of the best ways to do that is to stay up-to-date with local, national and global news. The tricky part is finding time to sit and watch a whole news program or read an entire newspaper. Many of us find ourselves busy catching up on emails, planning for our next meeting or spending free time with our families and friends. To help me stay informed on current affairs, I use two online resources that require a very minimal time commitment.
The Skimm
The Skimm is a daily email newsletter that keeps you up-to-date on all of the headlines. You will receive an email with a quick synopsis of the biggest news for that day, including links to reputable news sources such as the Wall Street journal and Harvard Business Journal. The synopsis also includes links to the original article if you want to read more, but you do not have to because The Skimm does such a great job of summarizing the most important details.

This Morning with Gordon Deal
Host, Gordon Deal, summarizes and discusses the headline news every morning, covering business, US and global news. This is a great podcast to sync up to with your Bluetooth and listen to on your daily commute. Gordon Deal makes the news interesting and easy to understand. The best part about it…it’s free!
