Southeast Polk Schools Unveils New State-of-the-Art Facility with HON’s Innovative Design
Southeast Polk Schools recently opened the doors to their new, cutting-edge educational facility, marking a significant milestone in their commitment to creating a dynamic and inspiring learning environment for students. The project, designed and furnished in collaboration with Workspace and HON, reflects a shared vision of innovation, functionality, and adaptability in education.
A Vision Realized
The Southeast Polk Schools project aimed to construct a space that would cater to the diverse needs of a growing student body while setting a new standard for educational design. With this ambitious goal in mind, the district partnered with HON to bring their vision to life.
"This was an opportunity to reimagine what education spaces could look like," said Jill Becker, Workspace’s Interior Designer. "We wanted to create an environment that inspires collaboration and creativity while addressing the unique needs of students and teachers."

Designing for Collaboration and Flexibility
One of the standout features of the facility is the innovative collaboration areas situated at the ends of the buildings. Furnished with Tangram furniture, these spaces are flooded with natural light, providing students with inviting zones to gather, work, and share ideas.
"The leadership at Southeast Polk was exceptional," noted Nathan Wells, Workspace’s Workplace Consultant. "Their commitment to fostering an environment where students and teachers thrive made it easy to align our design with their vision."
In addition to collaborative spaces, the design emphasized versatility. Special attention was given to classrooms, counseling areas, and spaces for special education, ensuring they could adapt to the evolving needs of students and staff.

Seamless Collaboration Drives Success
The project’s success was rooted in a close partnership between Southeast Polk Schools, HON, and Workspace, HON’s Education Priority Dealer. Together, they worked to ensure that the project met all expectations and delivered on time.
"The relationship among the client, manufacturer, and dealer was instrumental," said Trent Rains, HON's Senior Business Development Manager. "By staying aligned at every stage—from planning to installation—we created a space that exceeded expectations."
Rains emphasized the unique approach Southeast Polk took in designing the facility: "Each department had specific needs, and nothing was 'cookie-cutter.' Listening to their goals and making them a reality was incredibly rewarding."

Early Feedback Highlights Success
While the facility has only been operational for a short time, initial feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Both students and faculty have praised the design for its ability to support diverse learning styles and foster a sense of community.
Seeing students engage with the space has been a highlight for Becker. "Watching students use the collaboration areas as we intended has been deeply gratifying," she said. "It’s a validation of the thoughtful design process."

A Bright Future for Southeast Polk
The new Southeast Polk facility represents more than just a building; it’s a commitment to creating spaces that empower students and educators. From the initial planning meetings in 2022 to the facility’s opening in 2024, the project exemplifies the power of collaboration and shared purpose.
"We’re incredibly proud of this project," Becker concluded. "It’s a testament to what’s possible when vision and expertise come together."
With this state-of-the-art facility now open, Southeast Polk School looks forward to a future filled with growth, learning, and continued collaboration.
