The twist knob under an office chair is usually the tilt tension knob or the side tilt tension control, depending on the chair model. This adjustment controls the rate and ease of recline, allowing you to set how much resistance the chair provides when you lean back. On HON chairs, turning the knob clockwise increases tension for a firmer recline, while turning it counterclockwise decreases resistance for a smoother recline.
