What is tilt on an office chair?

Tilt on an office chair is the reclining function that allows the seat and back to move so you can lean back for comfort and support throughout the day. Tilt helps improve posture, circulation, and flexibility while seated.

On HON chairs, tilt features include:

  • Center Tilt – Rotates the seat from a pivot point at the center of the chair for a balanced recline.
  • Mid-Range Knee Tilt – Rotates the seat from a point closer to the front edge, allowing your feet to stay on the floor while reclining.
  • Synchronized Knee Tilt – Reclines the back at a higher ratio than the seat to keep the body aligned.
  • Synchro-Tilt – Reclines the back at a greater angle than the seat for improved spinal alignment and circulation.
  • Tilt Tension / Side Tilt Tension – Controls how easy or difficult it is to recline, letting you fine-tune resistance.
  • Tilt Lock – Allows you to lock the chair in an upright or reclined position when firmer back support is needed.

These tilt options let you choose between free movement or a locked posture, ensuring HON chairs adapt to your preferred comfort level.

Refer to HON’s Chair functions page to view all the ways some HON chair models can be adjusted to fit your needs.
